Installing over SSH

Installing openSUSE via ssh remotely

You must be able to make a connection from the local machine to the remote machine over ssh. Below the series of commands and things to do.

ssh -o "UserKnownHostsFile /dev/null" user@server
wget http://houghi.org/oSin
  • Edit the script if needed
    sh oSin
    
  • edit /boot/grub/menu.lst to set the new entry as default
  • reboot the remote machine
  • Wait for a LONG time for the machine to be available again. This will depend on the speed of the machine and the speed of download.
    ssh -X -o "UserKnownHostsFile /dev/null" root@server
    
  • Password is what you gave running the script
    yast
    
  • At the end it will reboot.
    ssh -X -o "UserKnownHostsFile /dev/null" root@server
  • Use the new password you have enterd in YaST
    /usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.ssh
  • Start configuring. The last step might be needed to repeat
